DIY Blingy Antlers

The antler craze is everywhere in decor these days.
I love the look of placing all kinds of natural elements here and there around the house. Since I live in the Hill Country of Texas, antlers are easy to find.

I've seen gold, silver, white and even black painted antler sheds showcased on interior websites as well as
on display in a few furniture stores.

I had an idea...
Why not take a regular mounted antler set and paint it to go along with existing decor colors? And add some bling while I'm at it!
I knew the ideal spot would be above the master bed,
so I spray painted an existing antler mount and wooden plaque.
(And yes, I got hubby's approval on that first!)

The ivory spray paint was a little too yellow, so I ended up painting it all again using ivory acrylic craft paint.
Projects don't always go as smoothly around here
as you might think. The redo's are usually the best ones though.
I painted the edge of the wood a tan color for contrast.
Then I lightened the tan color with some ivory paint
and painted the face of the wood with that color.
I used some ivory velvet (leftover from the Christmas stockings)
to cover the form that's included in the mounting kit.
Now for the bling!
Have you seen those cute crystal nail heads used in upholstery these days? I used some plastic 1/4" crystal discs and hot glued
them to the velvet to mimmic the nail head look.
This blingy antler mount is the perfect mixture of masculinity and femininity, which works nicely above the headboard.

You can see more ways I've used antlers in my decor HERE.

It's been a little hectic around here,
but now that the weather is getting warmer, I'm ready to jump into some Spring projects. Can't wait to show you!
xoxo,

  1. Hi Janis! I think you are right, painting the antlers really dressed them up. They look SO GOOD over your bed. Great idea!

  2. First let me say that my husband would be so jealous of those antlers and the fact that they are hanging in the house. Ours are in the garage...I'm man like that. :)

I love the way you painted them and gave them a little bling! Looks much more current and decorative.

  3. Janis-
Your antlers are amazing and I love how they look against that fabulous paint color!
May I ask what it is?
